Fungal cell
Fungal cells are most similar to animal cells, with the following exceptions:
- A cell wall that contains chitin
- Less definition between cells; the
hyphae of higher fungi have porous partitions called septa, which allow
the passage of cytoplasm, organelles, and, sometimes, nuclei. Primitive
fungi have few or no septa, so each organism is essentially a giant
multinucleate supercell; these fungi are described as coenocytic.
- Only the most primitive fungi, chytrids, have flagella.
